Dr. Moshe Shapira, Vice President and Head of R&D Division Born in 1956 in Jerusalem He has been VP at Bet Shemesh Engines Ltd. since 2005 Moshe is responsible for the development and engineering of small jet engines for unmanned vehicles and delivering the engines to customers. He also supports other divisions in adopting new technologies.
1999 to 2005 Head of the Propulsion Physics Division at Soreq NRC. His duties included management of up to ~30 R&D projects, in the area of plasma physics, power supplies for short pulses, laser applications, fluid flow, heat transfer, magnetic sensors, internal ballistics, space thrusters, etc. At the same time Moshe was managing an Anti-Terror Center and Laboratory. The unit underwent a dramatic change under his supervision including new activity areas (UWB, Magnetic sensors applications, anti-terror technology etc.) new contacts, marketing and budget sources, as well as joint ventures with companies in the USA, former USSR and the EU.
1997 to 1999 Head of the Physical Diagnostics Group at Soreq
1996 to 1997 Visiting Professor at the Nuclear Engineering Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Setting up a new laboratory for D-D interactions (theta-pinch). Also he was a Visiting Professor at the Department of Aeronautical Engineering teaching fluid dynamics and thermodynamics.
1995 to 1996 Project Manager at Soreq Managing a multi-disciplinary project
1992 to 1996 Head of the Reactor Calculations Group, at Soreq
1990 to 1992 Research Scientist and R&D Engineer, at Soreq in the area of heat transfer and fluid dynamics in reactor applications.
1989 to 1990 Research Fellow at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Caltech - California Institute of Technology Working on a project relating to two-phase flow with sonar applications. At the same time he was a Visiting Research Scientist at the Department of Chemical and Nuclear Engineering at the University of California at Santa Barbara
During his academic studies Moshe was an Instructor and Head of Laboratory for undergraduates at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technion, Haifa.
Moshe Shapira holds a D.Sc. M.Sc. and Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, where he was award Summa cum laude at his bachelor studies.
